Here, I have a short list of Sudoku programs that may be used to produce, solve, or play with Sudoku puzzles.

Simple Sudoku makes high quality puzzles that are symmetrical, have a single solution, and do not require trial & error to solve. The user can also choose between five levels of complexity - from Easy to Extreme. Each puzzle is generated randomly so there is an almost limitless selection. Freeware - Windows

SuDoku Solver is a program designed to help solve Sudoku puzzles. The solver uses only logical methods that would be employed by a human solving the puzzle and explains how each square of the puzzle was solved. The solvers algorithm can also act as a helper by revealing a single square's value, providing a hint if you want to solve a puzzle yourself but are a little stuck. Freeware - Windows

3D SuDoku has OpenGL compatible 3D graphics and sounds which make the gameplay more pleasant than ever. The game has such features as hints, mistake spotting and it automatically saves the game for you whenever you exit and loads it when you start the game again. There are various difficulty levels and thousands of unique solvable boards. Freeware - Windows

Sudoku Companion makes solving Sudoku puzzles more convenient. It is very Mac-like and it has all necessary and expected features. Shareware - Mac

Sudoku Solver will attempt to solve all Sudoku puzzles deterministically by the iterative application of a sequence of rules. For puzzles that have insufficient information or are very hard the system will then generate guesses and look for inconsistencies deriving from the guesses. If the puzzle is malformed (ie cannot have a solution as it contains a logical contradiction) then the solver will identify it as such. Freeware - Windows

Sudoku Mate generates an unlimited number of suduko puzzles for beginners and experts. 50 different levels of difficulty to choose from. Create and edit your own sudoku puzzles and store them in a database file for later use. Solve sudoku puzzles manually or with the solver. Easy to use number pad for entering and editing numbers. Sudoku Susser is a program that helps you play Sudoku. The program is distributed with no crippleware or nag features whatsoever. Freeware - Mac
